Flight to Tokyo

Late Tuesday afternoon (early in the morning in NJ) my plane landed at Narita International Airport after a more than 12 hour flight that took off late because of air traffic control difficulties in San Francisco. The crew of United Flight 837 was great. When the pilot first signed on at the start of the flight he specially welcomed the 100 teachers aboard the plane who were traveling to Japan as a part of the JFMF teacher program. Hearing him make that announcement is a memory I will never forget.

I was lucky enough to have the window seat so I got to say good-bye to the US and hello to Japan right from my window. However, there was very little to see when we were landing because it was raining and overcast. Once we made it through immigration and customs we boarded a bus and traveled about 1 ½ hours to The Hotel New Otani in the heart of Tokyo. I look forward to telling you more about my Japan journey as my experience continues. For now, I am very tired and am off to bed. Sayonara!

Hi Miss Vecchione, This is Quin! One of the posters for the kids in Japan has a question from me about flying cryptid jellyfish. Even if they don't know what the heck I'm talking about, just look out the plane window when Japan is out of sight. See you soon! One other thing, sayonara!

Konichiwa, Miss Vecchione. This is Mr. Williams. I'm glad you're staying at the Hotel New Otani. Isn't it beautiful? have you been to the gardens? Did you have a Japanese breakfast or an American breakfast? Did you see Mt. Fuji?

Mr. Williams, the Hotel New Otani is amazing. My room is terrific and I have a view of the Japanese garden from my room! So far, I have only tried the American breakfast, but I did try some Japanese dinner on my first night in Tokyo...there are pictures on my website and I could write a whole blog about the experience my new teacher friends and I had with a lovely Japanese couple (Fulbright alum's)who accompanied us. Speaking of breakfast...I am off to eat breakfast right now!
